This is my 14th year of homeschooling. Aside from homeschooling, I am a sleep technologist and work for Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital 2 nights a week. I am curently taking a break, but have been enrolled stenography school to become a captioner (think closed caption on the TV for the deaf and hard of hearing). I also teach an ASL 1 and ASL 2 class for high school foreign language credits.
I have taught classes in a homeschool co-op setting at every age level K-12. Some of the subjects I have taught in co-op settings are elementary and high school World Geography, elementary English, English from the Roots Up, High School Latin 1 & 2, American Sign Language 1 & 2, and Intro to ASL for elementary and middle school. I use multiple sources of curriculum and videos teaching ASL vocabulary & grammar and Deaf Culture.
I grew up as a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) immersed in the Deaf Community and have been signing my whole life. While my passion is definitely American Sign Language, I love learning and teaching languages, history, geography and other cultures. I am comfortable teaching any grade levels/ multiple grade levels and can adjust my curricula to fit multiple ages. I am excited to get the opportunity to teach at PLA.
