American History/  Health & Personal Finance

Hi, my name is Laura Motok and I have been blessed to be part of our home school community for many years.  My husband Jim and I have  enjoyed 32 years of marriage and we have 11 children, ranging in age from 28 to 10.  Each one has been home educated from Kindergarten all the way through High School.  I currently have five left that are school age.

I have two children  in college, one son recently graduated from UTC and directing an off Broadway play in NY, one married and serving in the US Air Force, a sous chef in Nashville, and a music teacher who serves locally in our community.   God has been good to us and it has been my great joy and humbling privilege  to teach our own children.

Thank you for considering me to tutor yours!  I take that responsibility very seriously.  I have a bachelor's degree from Ohio State University where I majored in Psychology and Sociology.  My passion is to teach and also to relay a love of reading to my students.  I also have taught children The Word of God in my church for many years.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of Priest Lake Academy.

 Chemistry, Biology, & Physical Science

My name is Theresa Cannady.  I taught upper level science at Lighthouse Christian School for 20 years and online school and tutorials for 3 years.  I am married to Alan and have two sons.  My older son graduated from Lighthouse Christian School and is now married living in Hendersonville.  My younger son Andrew is 16 and we are homeschooling.

I love the Lord and my family but also really like science and teaching.  I feel a true calling to teach.  And because I love science, I have the best job ever…sharing my love of God and of science.  I also like a good science fiction movie, reading and gardening.  I really look forward to adding another year of teaching as I work with PLA tutorial.

Middle School History

I was born and raised in Nashville, TN and was homeschooled all 12 years before college. I grew up with four brothers and two sisters and am happily married to my high school sweetheart who has eight siblings. I received my Bachelor of Science in Art Education at Middle Tennessee State University in May 2019. From 8th grade to 12th grade, I attended Francis Schaeffer Study Center, which is based around the disciplines of art, history, and literature. This experience taught me the incredible value and connections between all the humanities and an individual’s worldview. An educator is responsible for the holistic development of a child, no matter what age or subject they teach. I strive to inspire the same meaningful connections in life through critical analysis of time and events. I aim to foster improved communication, a secure sense of worldview, and a broader understanding of other people.

Drama

I am extremely excited to be joining the staff for the upcoming year. My third year to be involved with the awesome folks here at PLA. I have been actively involved in drama and theatre for nearly 30 years. In that time I have had the opportunity to not only act, but also direct, write, design and build sets, and run tech for various productions. Since 2017, I have been blessed to have been on stage for several plays in the local area. For the past 13 years I have taught drama (and visual art) at a local performing arts studio for kids. Since 2007, I have served in kid’s ministry at LifePoint Church. After attending Florida School of the Arts right out of high school, I eventually graduated from MTSU in 2000 with a BA in History (What?!? From history to drama? God obviously had other plans for me.). My wife, Amy, and I have been married nearly 24 years and we have two daughters.

Music

Hello, my name is Victoria Fields. I’m a vocal performance graduate from Belmont University. I am married to the love of my life Justin Fields, and have two absolutely incredible little boys Alexander and Jonathan.
As a private voice instructor I have taught an assortment of different voices and levels since 2010: from middle school to retirement and classical to pop.  I have performed all of my life. I love music.  I have put on several concerts in Germany, directed 4 children’s musicals, and performed around the world with a show choir missions group for three years.
I am just now diving into the homeschool realm with my oldest, and excited to be apart of this homeschool tutorial to bring the love of music to other sweet children. We will have fun combining the gifts of singing, dancing and acting through musicals during our classes.
